Interesting Stories from the Past".
Back in 1955, I was 7 years old and was fascinated with airplanes and the sky. I used to lay on the ground and watch the perpetual waves of SAC planes and especially the venerable B-36's, those huge planes with 6 turbo prop engines (3 on each wing) on the back side of the wings with 2 sets of 2 jet engines. Those planes created a fascinating Buzz/Hum, unlike anything now or since then. They came in sets of 2 or 3 every 4 hours as a part of the Cold War effort and each allegedly carried 2 nuclear bombs. One afternoon, while lying on some construction blocks and watching the planes, I was surprised and traumatized by a huge spider which was the largest I had ever seen. I was convinced it was a Tarantula but everyone said I was imagining. Interestingly, several years later, I learned that the nearby RR tracks carried cars of Bananas from the tropics and that tarantula's "could" have been in the cars and could have escaped! Those were some fascinating and developmental years for me, as I was an "A" student at St, Mary's Catholic Grade School with the Sister's of Notre Dame in full black Habits and very strict and at times, MEAN! I did, however, get a great and high quality education. In many ways, those were indeed the good old days, way before all of the worry and chaos of today's modern world. To be continued.........
